Recovery Time

We have moved into our house, but have been too busy packing and unpacking. Hopefully when we are home again, we can post some new pictures. Since the last time we posted, we have a garage door, and a driveway, although we can't drive on it for another few weeks.

We had decided a while ago to take a bit of a holiday. We flew to Montreal on Friday, picked up a rental car and Rachel and then drove to Quebec City. Yesterday we went to Old Quebec and walked around there for most of the day. While we were sitting and eating lunch, we saw a lot of police on motorcycles and trucks. I commented that something must be going on, but Rachel assured me it was probably nothing. A short time later we saw vans with bicycles on top and then a group of cyclists, then more vans with bikes and then a very large group of them. I asked the waiter if we would see them again, and he said no, but the police kept coming and they didn't take the orange cones down. A while later they came again, but this time I was ready with my camera.

Throughout the next several hours we saw them cycle up the hill, and around us. We also saw "No Parking" signs with Tour de Beauce written on them. When we got back to the hotel I looked it up. Turns out I got a fairly good picture of the winner of the leg of the race we saw yesterday.

Old house sold!!

Yesterday we sold the old house. Now it is time to pack and hope our appliances come before June 10th, since that is the day we no longer own two houses.

No More Pink House

It has been a while since we have updated our blog. I tried a week ago or so, but it wouldn't show the pictures so I didn't post.

Now the outside of the house has been sided, there is no more pink inside or outside. The hardwood has been installed. Rob and I are really the only ones that have seen it, as we went over, had a quick look and then covered it up to protect it.

The carpet has been installed, and the tile that was installed on our last post has been grouted. The backsplash in the kitchen has been tiled. The fireplace has been completed. Much of the plumbing is done, but the water was not on when we visited today. There seems to be a lot of work involved in the plumbing in our house, but I think the end result will be very nice. The boiler, pipes and tubing hooked up in the basement is quite the sight.

Looking Good

I know it has been a while since we last posted. We have taken possession of the house, but we don't know when we will move in yet. It seems even though there is something happening at the house almost every day, it is still going fairly slowly. Part of the reason for the slow progress is the extra things that are being put in the house.

Since we last posted, the stair railings have been installed. The first phase of the finishing has been done. That means all the trim, window seats and eating nook have been built. The painting has been done, and the lights have been installed. Most of the tile is installed, but it has not been grouted. That should happen on the weekend. They should be installing the hardwood soon. They were supposed to start today, maybe tomorrow.

They have also finally started the siding, so that means finally the pink on the outside will also be gone. It will turn into a really nice gray blue with white trim.

More Cleaning

The finish carpenters have completed their work on the second floor, so the painters are starting to paint today. That meant we had to clean up again. Rob and I both had other things to do last night so we got a late start and it was almost 11:00PM before we were finished. The carpenters should be finished with the main floor today, so I think we will be cleaning again tonight. Rob assured me last night that after this clean up is done, the messes become smaller.

Possession Date Set

In the last week we have received a letter. We have a possesion date set for April 2, 2007. That is less than a month away. In the meantime, more work is being done on the inside of the house. This week the railings and spindles are being installed on the stairs. We were there Wednesday evening, and they were still working. On Monday the finish carpenter starts with door trims and baseboards. Once he is done, we can clean the house again.
