Just a quick note today.

We know things are happening now. The city didn't like the size of our deck, so we have to make it a little smaller.

At least we know things are happening.

Waiting ...

There might be a few of these waiting types of posts. I should have mentioned in the first post that the two pictures are of our lot. I thought that would be pretty obvious. One was taken in the middle of December when we first signed the deal to build the house. The second picture was taken when we signed off on the blue prints.

This picture was taken a fewdays ago, with the snow and ice melted off. Out next door neighbours don't have a driveway yet, so they are using the lot for parking.

Today we met with the flooring company and selected the hardwood, ceramic tile, and granite tile for the counter top. We also selected some really interesting tile for the backsplash in the kitchen.

Other than that there is not much to write about. This is the really hard part, not knowing exactly what is happening, not knowing when the next significant thing will happen. We know we need building permits and they will take about a month to get once the applications are submitted.

In about a week we are going to have a mole in the office and hopefully they will be able to find out exactly what happens next in this process.

Well this has been a long time, but we are ready to start our blog on the adventure of building a house. Today was a milestone day so I thought it would be a good day to post our first blog. We signed a deal just before Christmas. Today we signed the blueprints. The next step is to get the permits and in about 4-6 weeks Rob should have the file. At that point there will be more frequent blogs as we can actually see things happening.

This evening we also had a good discussion with an interior designer who gave us some really good ideas about colors and some finishing details. Next we have to visit all the trade partners and select flooring, kitchen cabinets, lighting, and everything else. It is going to be very busy for the next few weeks/months but we are looking forward to it.
