Mostly Backfilled

Yesterday the backfilling was interrupted by rain, but we went to take pictures anyway. Most of the backfilling is complete and there seems to be a bit of extra dirt. They will need to take the extra dirt away.

The next task it to put the grade beam in. That is what the garage sits on. They are a bit backed up on that, so we are not sure when that is going to happen. There probably won't be any updates now until the grade beam is done. Doesn't the house look nice?

Keeping the house warm

We added some sweat equity to our house this weekend. The "pink" increases the insulation in the house. As well, it reduces moisture condensation within the walls. The exposed concrete will be inside the garage. Tomorrow they will back fill the basement and you will not see most of it.

How the basement stays dry

Well, some of our family members don't think that today's update is worth blogging about. However, after three weeks of nothing, it is good to see some progress. Rain caused the excavation to cave in and slowed things down. Today the foundation was damp proofed. That is the black tar you see. Under the rock at the base is a flexible pipe called weeping tile that directs water to a sump pail and keeps the basement dry.
